Budget Trackers Have Grown Up
The sub-$100 fitness tracker market has matured dramatically. Features that were exclusive to $300+ devices two years ago — continuous heart rate monitoring, SpO2 tracking, sleep staging, and GPS — are now available in devices that cost less than a nice dinner. We tested 10 budget trackers over three months, validating their accuracy against reference equipment (chest strap heart rate monitors, surveyed running tracks, and clinical-grade sleep monitors).
Best Overall: Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro
At $59, the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro is the value champion. The 1.74-inch AMOLED display is bright and responsive, built-in GPS tracks runs without your phone, and heart rate accuracy in our testing was within 3 BPM of a Polar chest strap during steady-state exercise. Battery life reaches an impressive 21 days with typical use. The main limitation is the companion app — Xiaomi Health is functional but cluttered with ads in some regions.
Best for Running: Amazfit Bip 6
The Amazfit Bip 6 ($79) offers the best GPS accuracy in the budget category. On our standardized 5K route, it measured within 0.8% of the surveyed distance — comparable to watches three times its price. The AI-powered running coach provides structured training plans based on your fitness level and goals. The always-on display is readable in direct sunlight, a feature missing from many budget trackers.
Best for Sleep Tracking: Fitbit Inspire 4
Fitbit's sleep tracking algorithm remains the most detailed in the consumer wearable space. The Inspire 4 ($99) breaks down sleep into light, deep, and REM stages with accuracy that closely matches our reference sleep monitor. The sleep score and readiness features help you understand how recovery affects your daily performance. The Premium subscription ($9.99/month) unlocks deeper insights but is not essential.
Best Smartwatch Features: Samsung Galaxy Fit 4
For Samsung phone users, the Galaxy Fit 4 ($89) offers the best smartwatch experience in a budget tracker. Notifications are well-formatted, quick replies work reliably, and the integration with Samsung Health provides comprehensive health dashboards. The 1.6-inch Super AMOLED display is gorgeous, and the 15-day battery life is solid.
Honorable Mention: Huawei Band 10
The Huawei Band 10 ($49) is the cheapest option that still delivers reliable heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking. The main drawback is limited availability in the US market and no built-in GPS (it relies on your phone for location tracking).
