Foldable Phones: Are They Worth It in 2026?

Foldable Phones: Are They Worth It in 2026?

Six Months With Five Foldables

We carried the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Google Pixel 10 Fold, OnePlus Open 3, and Motorola Razr 2026 as our primary phones — each for six months.

Durability: Better Than Expected

After six months of daily folding (40 opens/closes per day), all five phones showed minimal crease deepening. Samsung's Ultra Thin Glass remained scratch-free. The OnePlus Open 3's crease is the least visible.

Software: The Real Differentiator

Samsung's One UI remains the most polished foldable software. App continuity works flawlessly for 90% of apps. Google's Pixel 10 Fold software is the weakest — many apps don't optimize for the inner screen.

Battery Life Reality

  • Galaxy Z Fold 7: 6.5 hours screen-on (inner display)
  • Pixel 10 Fold: 5.8 hours
  • OnePlus Open 3: 7.2 hours
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7: 4.5 hours
  • Motorola Razr 2026: 4.1 hours

Is the Premium Worth It?

For book-style foldables ($1,800): If you use the inner screen for productivity, yes. For flip phones ($1,000-$1,200): You pay for compactness — the inner screen experience is identical to a regular phone.

Our Recommendation

The OnePlus Open 3 offers the best hardware. Samsung's Z Fold 7 has the best software. For flip phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the most refined.
