Foldable Phone Hinge Durability Tested

Do Foldable Phones Last?

The biggest concern with foldables is hinge durability. Manufacturers claim 200,000+ folds, but real-world usage involves dust, temperature changes, and accidental stress.

Our Testing Protocol

Each phone was folded 100,000 times at room temperature, then 50,000 in cold (5C) and 50,000 in heat (40C). We measured hinge play, crease visibility, and screen damage.

Results

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Minimal hinge play after 200K folds. Crease slightly more visible but no screen damage. Most durable.

Google Pixel Fold 2: Good through 150K folds. Slight hinge play increase at 200K. No screen damage.

OnePlus Open 2: Excellent hinge design. Water-drop fold creates minimal crease. Best crease management.

Motorola Razr Ultra 2: Flip-style held up well. Slight gap increase but no functional issues.

Huawei Mate X6: Outward-folding design. Minimal wear after 200K folds. Less stress on screen.

Real-World Tips

Dust can accumulate in hinges. Samsung and OnePlus include dust-resistant designs. Avoid folding in sandy environments.

Conclusion

All five survived 200K folds without failure. Samsung and OnePlus lead in hinge engineering. Durability is no longer a dealbreaker.
