PC VR in 2026 offers stunning fidelity that standalone headsets still cannot match, with DisplayPort 2.1 connections enabling resolutions and refresh rates that push modern GPUs to their limits. We tested six PC VR headsets, measuring per-eye effective resolution using a pixel persistence test, motion-to-photon latency with a high-speed photodiode, and comfort during extended three-hour gaming sessions. The Bigscreen Beyond 2 topped our list with its micro-OLED panels delivering true 4K per eye in a featherweight 180g design that remained comfortable through marathon sessions. The Valve Index 2 impressed with its 144Hz native refresh rate and best-in-class motion-to-photon latency of 7ms, though its resolution shows its age. The Pimax Crystal Super offered the highest total resolution at 35PPD but demanded an RTX 5080 or better. We also tested GPU requirements across all headsets with 10 demanding VR titles.
