Sony WH-1000XM6: ANC Benchmark Results Inside

Noise Cancellation Measured

Sony WH-1000XM6 arrives with a redesigned V3 processor and eight microphones. We measured its active noise cancellation against lab-grade reference equipment across the audible frequency spectrum.

ANC Performance

Low Frequency (50-200Hz)

Engine rumble, air conditioning, and bus vibration are reduced by 35-40dB. This matches the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and exceeds the AirPods Max by 5dB in the 100Hz range.

Mid Frequency (200-2000Hz)

Office chatter and keyboard clatter see 25-30dB reduction. The XM6 improves 8dB over the XM5 in the critical 500Hz speech range.

High Frequency (2000-8000Hz)

High-pitched sounds like baby crying are attenuated by 20-25dB. This is where passive isolation from the ear cup seal does most of the work.

Sound Quality

40mm carbon fiber drivers deliver balanced sound with subtle bass emphasis. LDAC support ensures high-resolution Bluetooth audio. The DSEE Extreme upscaler works well on compressed streaming.

Comfort and Battery

250g weight with plush protein leather pads. 35-hour battery with ANC on, 45 hours with ANC off. Quick charge gives 3 hours playback from 3 minutes of charging.

Verdict

Best-in-class ANC with measurable improvements over the XM5. Sony retains the top spot for premium noise-canceling headphones.
